Why should I have my water tested?
Water is essential for life, and the quality of the water you use daily for drinking, cooking, and bathing can significantly affect your health. Contaminated water can carry harmful bacteria, viruses, and chemicals, leading to various health issues, including gastrointestinal diseases, neurological disorders, and reproductive problems.
Problem #1 - Municipal Water Delivery
The water coming through your tap has been used many times before. Water is drawn from rivers, lakes, and wells, and pumped into your municipal water plant. It is filtered through sand and gravel to trap solid matter. Chlorine is then added to kill algae and any dangerous living organisms that may be present. The water then travels through pipe systems to your home, which may be decades old, and can potentially leech other contaminants into the water supply.
Problem #2 - Trihalomethanes
While the water utilities do an excellent job removing dangerous micro-organisms from the water supply, the chlorine they add to accomplish this interacts with things such as pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other organic compounds and forms “Trihalomethanes” (THMS) – are known cancer-causing agents, meaning they have been found to cause cancer in human beings, not just in laboratory rats.
Problem #3 - Bacteria Growth
Ordinary activated carbon filters found in other products become breeding grounds for bacteria, which can exceed safe limits as quickly as overnight. US Cities with the Worst Tap Water: Kern County, California
Kern County, California is known as one of the fastest-growing counties in the US. It’s also becoming known for something else: arsenic levels in its water supply. And while growth, tourism and country music continue to put this city on the map, its association with having some of the worst water in the US is what’s really got residents concerned.
Kern County gets its water from a variety of sources, including the Kern County Water Agency, which serves nearly 150,000 residents. It’s this water that is of the most concern; and that’s because water from this facility has tested positive for mind-blowing arsenic contamination levels. The EPA even sent out a press release warning the agency to take steps to remediate its arsenic-contaminated water supply. In a recent Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), the EPA went on to say that any household whose water contains 1 part per billion arsenic should make steps to have it removed.
Arsenic is much different than lead. Lead makes its way into the water supply through plumbing and pipes. But arsenic, on the other hand, comes from the water itself – it doesn’t get picked up in a dirty pipe, it was there the whole time. And that’s what makes this contaminant so reviled – it’s there every step of the way.

New Analysis Shows Widespread PFAS Contamination of Tap Water in CA
California has been monitoring drinking water sources for PFAS, including those near potential contamination sites like landfills, wastewater treatment plant discharge points, oil and gas facilities, metal plating facilities, and airports. In 2021, NRDC published a report that analyzed the initial data from this monitoring program, with a particular focus on data related to drinking water in overburdened communities.
These investigations revealed that PFAS pollution in California is widespread throughout the state, but more prevalent in communities already overburdened by multiple sources of pollution and by other factors that make them more sensitive to pollution, putting those vulnerable communities at greater risk of harm from PFAS exposure.

Your water using appliances and clothes will last at least 30% longer.
